LAWN MEDIC

February 2005

Dear Valued Customer:
I am contacting you today on behalf of my business, my family, our community, and on behalf of our outdoor living environment.

There is a proposal before the Monroe County legislature that would require 48-Hour advance notification to all neighbors (within 150 feet of your property) for pesticide spray applications that may be made to your property by my company. This legislation, though labeled "environmentally friendly," would, actually pose a serious threat to our environment.

The logistics of having to provide notice at least 2 days in advance will likely cause an expensive, logistical nightmare and that due to weather, construction, and other problems that can adversely affect scheduling. Moreover, Integrated Pest Management (I.P.M.) techniques, which encourage environmentally friendly treatments in a timely manner, would be severely impacted and diminished. The NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and health authorities around the state have not endorsed the need for such erroneous legislation.

We in the Green Industry need your help in fighting this anti-environmental legislation. I have enclosed a petition notice against the proposed legislation. I hope it will meet with your approval. Please sign your name, address and return to me. Your petition will be combined with others and presented to our Legislators to give them a more accurate picture of what their constituents want. I encourage you to call your legislator as well and leave word that you are against mandatory notification; and that voluntary notification is the way to go.

ACT NOW - DO NOT WAIT!!

Time is short. legislators plan to vote this spring. So, please take a moment to fill out the petition. If you have any questions regarding the details of this legislation, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your time and effort.

Sincerely,

Donald W. Burton

P.S. The Green Industry has proposed an alternative to this legislation called Adjacent Voluntary Neighbor Notification Program. This will afford those who wish to be notified will have the courtesy extended by my company.
